Louie Palu was born in 1968 of Italian parents in Toronto, Canada. Louie Palu works in the United States. Graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1991, he interned for Mary Ellen Mark and began shooting professionally that same year. A six-year stint as a photographer at Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail followed.

He currently works as a freelance photojournalist and is distributed by ZUMA Press. His focus is on social and political matters, including work from Guantanamo Bay published in The Atlantic Monthly, and a project in Afghanistan where he aims to refocus attention onwhat he feels is a largely overlooked conflict: “Finding funding for these assignments is extremely difficult…but I really believe in what I am doing there.”
