H3D-39 Shooter Named Septembers HOC Photographer of the Month
20/09/2010 Ben Hattenbach, Hasselblad Owners' Club Photographer of the Month for September, is a wildlife photographer, adventurer, and conservationist who spends much of his time exploring some of the planet's least accessible, most inhospitable places.
“Blue Oasis," the image HOC members selected as photograph of the month, was shot in Central Iceland earlier this year. "I have captured most of my wilderness photos with an H3D-39, producing prints with exceptional detail and color," says Ben.

He often spends several days looking for the perfect light, weather and composition for a single image, backpacking deep into the wilderness to find scenery as yet untouched by man. Among his recent expeditions were trips to Arctic Alaska in winter (-65 F) and Death Valley in summer (125 F) - both arduous endurance tests for his equipment. The H3D-39 did not disappoint!
"This summer I spent two weeks aboard a Russian icebreaker, photographing northern Greenland and a few smaller islands surrounding the North Pole," adds Ben.
With his work published regularly - most recently in Outdoor Photographer and Popular Photography, it may come as a surprise to learn that between photo expeditions, Ben is a partner at a Los Angeles-based law firm, focusing on complex intellectual property disputes.
